Old bodystyle suburbans (< 91) are usually registered as kombi and can carry 5/6 people, there is then a wall dividing the cargo area and the passanger area. Some of these are above 3,5 tonn and need a higher class printed in the driverslicense. Also they have to be shown "biltilsynet" every year. A lot of them have later changed the loadrating by removing a leafspring in the back and can be driven on a regular license/shown biltilsynet every other year. Rumor has it that you can no longer register them down a class like this, but that does not effect the ones allready registered.
I agree it is a great buy for what it costs for a good Diesel 88-90 model. Get one in good shape, fresh rebuilt pump and gearbox(with documented papers), and if you can perform simple mainteines yourself there is no bether family car.
