1. Driving outside roads and marked trails is prohibited in Iceland.
2. Car insurances do usually not cover accidents that occur driving outside the Public Roads.
3. If you decide to cross rivers you should keep in mind the following:
a) caution should be held while driving in rivers. Some have strong currents
and are deeper then they appear. They can also change in short notice.

before crossing by car. If itŽs not possible to cross by foot you should not
try to do it by car. Always drive downstream.
c) Airsupply to the car should always be above water level.
4. Driving in snow outside the main roads is permitted, if the snow is enough to prevent damage to the underlying vegetation. The earth should be well covered in snow and frozen.
5. You are permitted to cross all uncultivated parts of land, without any special permit of the landowner if you are travelling by foot, on skies or non-motor-driven vehicals.
6. Bicyclists should follow organized trails and roads.
7. Horseriders should try to follow organized trails.
8. You should ask landowner if you need to put up a compartment for the horses. The compartment should be based on an ungrown path of land. Always bring food for the horses while travelling in the highlands.
9. Travellers on foot are permitted to cross water,rivers and seashores without permit.
10. Berries-, mushroom- and mountaingrasspiking is permitted. You should always ask landowner if you are on owned land.
11. The picking of seaweed and other seafoods is permitted. If you are on shores of an owned land you should get permit from landowner.
